Sony Pictures Announces A New Karate Kid Movie, But Delays Kraven The Hunter
Sony Pictures released their 2023-2024 theatrical release schedule and announced that a new Karate Kid film was scheduled to open on June 7, 2024. Sony also delayed the Spider-Man universe films Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web.
Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson will now be released on October 6, 2023, and was originally slated for January 2023. Meanwhile, Madame Web will now premiere on February 16, 2024, and was originally aimed for Kraven's new release in October. An untitled film from Sony's Marvel universe has also been shifted to July 12, 2024, from June 7. It's possibly Tom Holland's next outing as Spider-Man taking place in a reset universe from the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Jon Hurwitz, co-creator of Netflix's hit series Cobra Kai, took to Twitter and addressed the fact that he, nor other stars or writers, will have anything with the upcoming Karate Kid movie.
The guys and I would love to make Karate Kid and Cobra Kai movies and hope to someday. But this one isn't from us or focused on the Cobra Kai cast. Don't know much about it, but wish it well. #KarateKid #CobraKai https://t.co/pd2aYYAF0A

Other Sony Pictures productions that moved around are the Adam Driver-led sci-fi horror 65 now scheduled for March 10, 2023, only moving up a month from its original April release. The Chris Pratt-voiced Garfield feature will now head to theaters on Memorial Day weekend 2024.
This is the second time Madame Web has been delayed. For years now, Sony has been adamant about making a Madame Web movie, with the film being seen as "Sony's version of Doctor Strange." Her comic book counterpart is a far stretch from that, as she's an elderly, telepathic, precognitive mutant confined to a hospital bed surrounded by life support machines that vaguely resemble a spider web. She made her television debut in the Fox animated Spider-Man series, voiced by Stan Lee's wife, Joan.
